Prior to tuning in for Foster Hewitt's broadcast
(from his famous gondola high above the ice at Maple Leaf Gardens) of
the Saturday "Hockey Night in Canada" Leaf game, Wes
McKnight would conduct a recorded interview
with a Toronto Maple Leaf player and "plug" the Bee Hive
hockey picture promotion. These "Sportsviews" shows aired on C.F.R.B. radio
(Toronto, Canada) at 6:45 p.m. His
show also aired for ten minutes following the Evening News each
weekday. The Saturday broadcast was a highlight for many fans to hear
the players speak. For giving their time, the player would receive $25 for the
interview.
Wes McKnight and Foster Hewitt were both
involved with the Bee Hive promotion to such an extent that the
company issued them both on a "Bee Hive" photo (pictured at
a radio microphone). Both men were eventually inducted into the Hockey
Hall of Fame in the non-player section.
