Back in the 1940's, players were
not paid for having their image on a Beehive photo. Instead,
they would receive a small case (usually with 6 tins) of Bee
Hive Corn Syrup tucked away into their locker at the beginning of the
hockey season.
Bob Davidson of the Maple Leafs was an employee of St. Lawrence Starch
Company at the time, and he would arrange the corn syrup
"swap" for the guys.
