Free NHL team shields
(crests) could also be ordered for any of the 8 teams in existence
during the 1930's/40's. This included the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red
Wings, Chicago Black Hawks, Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Maroons,
New York Americans, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs. A
ninth shield of the Brooklyn Americans was also available for a very
short time but it's quite rare. The catalogue value of a shield today is approximately
$100.
To obtain a shield, send in either one 5 lb.
Bee Hive label OR three package tops from 2 lb. Bee Hive containers,
along with one starch label from any of the company's Starch
products. These shields were made of strong, stout cloth and came in the
colours of the team it represented. Size was 3 3/4"
by 4 1/2"
and could be stitched on any sweater or jacket.
